Murnau am Staffelsee

Murnau am Staffelsee – Germany

Life is multifaceted – Art has to be like that, too!

From the beginning of the 19th century, many artists left their urban studios and art academies to be inspired by the scenic beauty and rural life. With the development of the open air painting and the reputation of Barbizon, up to 200 artists colonies were established throughout Europe – including Murnau am Staffelsee. Some of the most famous works of art of the 19th and 20th centuries were created here. On this site Murnau is represented by the Artists Association Murnau – Atelier Tusculum (“Künstlervereinigung Murnau e.V. – Atelier Tusculum”).
